Duskwood Farming Guide: Raven Hill Undead and Kingsblood (20–30)

Duskwood is the first zone on the Alliance road south where the trees close over the road, and that gloom is exactly what pays. The cemetery above Raven Hill is full of slow undead that drop Wool Cloth and stand on one of the best Grave Moss patches a low-level herbalist can reach, the woods between the hill and Darkshire belong to worgen packs that carry silk, and the orchard in the south-east is webbed over by spiders. This duskwood farming guide ties the three into one loop for a level 20–30 character on a vanilla-era realm such as WoW Forever, with Kingsblood and Wild Steelbloom on the way for anyone with a herb bag.

Where and what you need

Levels. Duskwood runs roughly from 18 at the Westfall border to 30 around Darkshire and the southern farms. The worgen near Raven Hill and the first cemetery terraces are fine from 20, the crypts, the orchard spiders and the ogre mound want 24 or more, and the whole lap is comfortable from 26 to 30. Under 24, skip stops 2 to 4 and walk the road straight from Darkshire to Raven Hill; still 18, finish the Westfall farming route first.

Professions. Herbalism doubles the trip: Kingsblood grows along the roads and farms, Wild Steelbloom on the slopes of the mound and the northern hills, and Grave Moss, which spawns only in graveyards, is thick between the headstones at Raven Hill; arrive with roughly 100–125 skill and leave with 150. Skinning is a solid second, because the spiders and the black ravager wolves skin into Medium Leather, while worgen and ogres skin into nothing. Mining finds tin, silver and the first iron, but no stop is built around the veins.

Gear and bags. A weapon from the Deadmines or Stockade quests and whatever greens you own are enough: the undead neither run nor call for help, and worgen fight one at a time if you pull them to the road. Several cemetery undead leave a disease ticking; priests and paladins cure it, everyone else sits it out with food. Wool, silk, leather, Spider's Silk, three herbs and vendor junk all stack separately, so bring four bags of 8–10 slots. Darkshire has an inn, vendors, a mailbox and a flight master, so hearth there; Raven Hill has nothing to sell to.

Run the stops in numbered order; the last leg follows the main road east and is farmed, not walked.

  1. Darkshire. Start at the town in the east: sell, repair, buy food and water, and pick up the Night Watch kill quests for worgen and undead. Leave by the road heading south.
  2. The Rotting Orchard. Follow the road south, then turn west where the trees turn grey and webbed. Carrion spiders in the mid 20s hang between the dead fruit trees in loose pairs: kill, loot the Spider's Silk, skin everything and loop the orchard once.
  3. Yorgen Farmstead. Head west along the southern edge of the zone to the lonely farm. Worgen in the mid-to-high 20s roam the fields and the wood line, and Kingsblood grows in the overgrown fields; pull to the fence line, never into the trees.
  4. Vul'Gol Ogre Mound. Continue west to the bare hill south of the main road. The ogres are 26–30, hit hard and include casters: pull one at a time with a ranged ability and fight on the slope. They drop Silk Cloth and greens faster than anything else here, and Wild Steelbloom grows on the hillside.
  5. Raven Hill. Cross north-west through the woods to the abandoned hamlet on the western road. The worgen here are the lowest in the zone, around 20–22, with black ravager wolves between the houses for skinners.
  6. The lower terraces. Take the path north out of the hamlet onto the first terraces. Skeletal fiends and horrors in the low 20s shuffle between the headstones, never flee and drop Wool Cloth. Every terrace has Grave Moss; watch for the skeletons that stand up behind you when you pick.
  7. The crypts. Climb to the upper terraces and the crypt doors. The plague carriers and flesh eaters here are 24–28, drop Wool and the first Silk, and guard the richest Grave Moss on the hill. Clear in rows; the inside of the crypts is tight and better left to a group.
  8. The northern woods. Leave the cemetery eastward and work the forest between the hill and the great tree in the centre of the zone, worgen country in the 22–27 band. Pull them to open ground, pick Wild Steelbloom on the ridges and Kingsblood by the road, then follow the road east to Darkshire and empty your bags.

What you get

Source Drops and nodes Why it sells
Undead on the terraces and at the crypts Wool Cloth, Silk Cloth from the 25+ ones, gray bones, silver, the odd green Wool and silk feed Tailoring and First Aid, and undead never make you chase them
Worgen near Raven Hill, Yorgen and the northern woods Wool Cloth, Silk Cloth, coin, greens, gray claws The best silk per kill in the zone, and the Darkshire quests pay extra for the same kills
Spiders in the Rotting Orchard Spider's Silk, Medium Leather, the odd Medium Hide Spider's Silk goes into popular tailoring and leatherworking patterns and sells fast
Ogres at Vul'Gol Silk Cloth, Wool Cloth, greens, plenty of vendor junk Silk is scarce at this level, and nothing you can solo at 26 drops it faster
Grave Moss, Kingsblood and Wild Steelbloom nodes Herbs, with Bruiseweed and Briarthorn in between Alchemists need all three for mid-level potions, and few people farm Grave Moss

Gold per hour

Be honest with the numbers: Duskwood is a cloth-and-herb zone, not a gold mine. A level 22–25 farming the western half with no gathering skills makes roughly 1–2 gold an hour, almost all of it Wool Cloth and vendor bones. A level 26–30 running the whole loop, ogres included, makes roughly 2–4 gold an hour before the auction house.

Herbalism moves the number most: Grave Moss, Kingsblood and Wild Steelbloom add roughly 1–3 gold an hour, depending on what alchemists pay on your realm. Skinning and Spider's Silk together add roughly another 1–2 gold at the orchard, so a herbalist-skinner at 27–30 on a healthy realm sees roughly 4–8 gold an hour.

What moves it: how fresh the realm is, how many players share the cemetery (the orchard and the mound are usually empty), your class and its downtime, and whether you vendor the cloth or walk it to Stormwind in full stacks.

Tips

  • Pull worgen to the road or the fence line; the second pack you did not see is the reason Duskwood has a reputation.
  • Clear the cemetery row by row; the undead respawn behind you, and a row at a time keeps the Grave Moss between you and open ground.
  • Never vendor Spider's Silk, Grave Moss or Wild Steelbloom; they are the three things here that an auction house pays real money for.
  • Skin spiders in batches: kill three, then skin three, and nobody tags the corpse you are standing on.
  • Carry the Darkshire kill quests while you farm; they overlap the loop, so the rewards are free.

Running it with ForeverBot

Open the Farming section, walk the eight stops once with Record loop on, then build the Targets list with + Current target as you meet each type: orchard spiders, worgen, ogres, terrace fiends and crypt plague carriers. Tick Go to a vendor when bags are full and Repair at vendors so the lap ends in Darkshire on its own, and in Loot and bags switch on Sell gray items, Auto loot and Buy food and water. The arrow then leads you around the loop, the Target key picks the next mob from your list, and the Kills, Gold and Gold/hour counters show which stop is paying tonight.

In Professions, tick Herbalism and Skinning, leave Remember nodes on so every Grave Moss and Kingsblood you pass is kept for the next lap, and switch on Skip nodes above your skill until you pass 125. In Settings, set the Navigator Route mode to safest so the leg from the grove to Darkshire stays on the road, and raise the Food/water stock if you plan to sit out the diseases. Save it with Save profile; the Farming section is part of every plan, and plans and pricing lists what else is included.

FAQ

Is the cemetery or the worgen better for gold?

The cemetery for a herbalist, because Grave Moss sits on the same ground as the Wool Cloth and nothing there runs or calls for help. For everyone else the worgen are slightly better from 25 up: they drop Silk Cloth earlier and the Darkshire quests pay for the same kills.

Can a Horde character use this duskwood farming guide?

Technically yes, but there is nowhere to sell, rest or mail, and the Darkshire guards are not friendly. A Horde player at this level gets the same kind of loop with a vendor nearby in Hillsbrad or Stonetalon, so this guide is written for Alliance characters.

When should I leave Duskwood?

When the worgen and the crypt undead turn green at 30 or so, the silk rate falls off. The Stranglethorn Vale skinning route starts at 30 to 32, a short walk down the southern road, and turns the Medium Leather habit from the orchard into real money.
