Silithus Farming Route: Twilight Cultists, Texts and Hive Silk (55–60)
A silithus farming route for 55–60: three Twilight cultist camps for Encrypted Twilight Texts and Runecloth, the silithid hives, Dreamfoil and Plaguebloom, with a map.
Most level 60 players see Silithus once, for a quest chain or a summon, and never go back. That is a mistake for anyone who likes steady, unglamorous gold. The desert below Un'Goro Crater is full of regular, non-elite humanoids carrying Runecloth and the Encrypted Twilight Texts that reputation grinders buy by the stack, three silithid hives nobody fights over, and Dreamfoil and Plaguebloom growing straight out of the sand between them. This silithus farming route ties the three together in one lap around Cenarion Hold, so a 55–60 character can fill its bags in an evening without a group.
Where and what you need
Silithus lies in the far south-west of Kalimdor. The only road in comes down from Un'Goro Crater in the north-east, past the graveyard at Valor's Rest, and runs to Cenarion Hold in the middle of the zone. The Hold has a flight master, an inn, food and water, repairs and the Cenarion Circle quartermaster who takes your turn-ins, so every lap starts and ends there.
- Level. 57 is where the loop becomes comfortable. At 55–56 stay in the north: the Twilight Base Camp and the rim of Hive'Ashi are the gentlest part of the zone. Hive'Regal in the south-east belongs to 59–60 characters.
- Class. Anything that handles a pull of two regular mobs. The cultists come as mixed melee and casters, the silithid come fast and in numbers, so a snare, a stun or area damage pays for itself. Hunters and warlocks have the easiest time.
- Gear. Dungeon blues or a solid mix of blues and greens: kill one caster and one melee back to back and keep half your health.
- Professions. Herbalism at 270–300 is the big multiplier: Dreamfoil, Golden Sansam, Mountain Silversage and Plaguebloom all grow here, and Silithus is one of the few zones where Black Lotus appears. Mining from 230 finds Thorium under the cliffs. There is nothing to skin. First Aid uses the Runecloth you loot; Enchanting turns unsold greens into dust and essence.
- Bag space. Four 16-slot bags, empty. Texts, cloth and herbs stack; greens and set pieces do not, and a lap can bring back a dozen of them.
- Water. More than you think. The camps are far apart and an empty mana bar costs a long walk.
The route

The lap runs anticlockwise around Cenarion Hold, camp to hive to camp, and comes home along the eastern road. The numbers match the map.
- Cenarion Hold. Fly in or ride down from Un'Goro. Repair, empty your bags, buy water, hand in any full stacks, then leave north-west across the open sand.
- Twilight Base Camp. The first camp sits in the north-west in a shallow bowl of dunes. Pull from the edge; a melee Avenger or Geolord and a Keeper casting from behind usually come as a pair. Leave the lesser wind stone beside the tents alone.
- The rim of Hive'Ashi. Turn south along the cliffs to the northern hive. Fight the silithid on the sand outside the mounds, never between them, where burrowed ones surface behind you. Dreamfoil grows along the cliff foot; take every node.
- Twilight Outpost. Follow the western mountains south to the smallest camp. Pull the casters out from between the tents one at a time; it refills quickly, so it is worth working twice.
- The rim of Hive'Zora. Keep south-west toward the biggest hive and walk the eastern side of its crescent of mounds so the dunes behind you stay clear. Plaguebloom likes the shaded sand here, and Thorium sits under the mountains behind the hive.
- Twilight Post. Turn east along the Scarab Wall to the southern camp, the largest and busiest, with more casters than the other two. Break line of sight behind the rocks and let them come to you. If someone is already working it, skip ahead and come back next lap.
- The edge of Hive'Regal. North-east of the wall lies the south-eastern hive, home to the toughest silithid in the zone. At 59–60 its outer edge is the best carapace and green farm in Silithus; below that, pull one at a time or ride past.
- The eastern road home. Ride north past the haunted ruins of Southwind Village to the road, then west to Cenarion Hold. Sell, repair, hand in, restock, start again from 1.
What you get
| Source | Drops / nodes | Why it sells |
|---|---|---|
| Twilight cultists (Geolords, Avengers, Keepers, Masters) | Encrypted Twilight Texts, Abyssal Crests, Runecloth, silver, greens | Texts go in at Cenarion Hold ten at a time for Cenarion Circle reputation, so grinders buy them by the stack |
| The same cultists, rarely | Twilight Cultist Mantle, Robe and Cowl | The three-piece set is the ticket to the wind stone summons, and someone on every realm is collecting it |
| Silithid at the three hives | Silithid Carapace Fragments, greens, grey chitin | Fragments are another ten-at-a-time turn-in; the greens disenchant into Illusion Dust and Greater Eternal Essence |
| Herb nodes in the sand | Dreamfoil, Golden Sansam, Mountain Silversage, Plaguebloom, the odd Black Lotus | Raid flasks and the Greater Arcane and Mongoose elixirs start here; one Black Lotus pays for the evening |
| Thorium veins under the cliffs | Thorium Ore, stone, the occasional Arcane Crystal | Every blacksmith past 250 wants bars, and Arcane Crystals sell on their own |
| Grey items | Vendor only | Repairs and water, every lap |
Gold per hour
Count a whole evening, not your best ten minutes. Raw coin and vendored greys from the cultists come to roughly 15–25 gold an hour; with the Runecloth and the greens sold or disenchanted a steady hour sits roughly at 30–50. The texts, crests and set pieces are the swing: on a realm where players are working the Cenarion Circle they can double that, and where nobody cares they sit in the bank. A herbalist picking everything on the way adds roughly 20–40 gold more, so a good hour on a busy realm lands roughly between 60 and 100 gold, and a single Black Lotus pushes one lap well past that.
Four things move those numbers: competition, because a second farmer on the same camp halves both your takes, so swap camps rather than argue; demand, so watch the auction house for a week before you commit; herbalism skill, because Plaguebloom and Black Lotus need the top of the range and a character who walks past them loses a third of the lap; and downtime, because every ride back with half-empty bags is money left in the sand.
Tips
- Fight on open sand with the hive at your back, never on the mounds. Silithid burrow, and a fresh one surfacing behind you turns a comfortable pull into a corpse run.
- Casters first at every camp. The melee cultists walk to you anyway; a Keeper keeps hurting you until it is dead.
- Keep texts in stacks of ten, the turn-in size. Buyers pay more for a ready stack than for seven loose pages.
- Leave every wind stone alone unless you are dressed for it. What they summon eats lone farmers.
- The whirlwinds north of the Hold drop Essence of Air, which enchanters pay well for. They hit harder than cultists, but when the northern camps are taken they are the best detour in the zone.
- Set your hearthstone at the inn in Cenarion Hold; it saves the ride whenever the bags fill at the far end of the lap.
- Silithus is contested. On a PvP realm the Hold is the only safe spot, and the camps fill with other farmers in the evening.
The Un'Goro Crater devilsaur route is the zone next door and the place for skinners, and the Plaguebloom run through Eastern Plaguelands is the herbalist's alternative when Silithus is crowded.
Running it with ForeverBot
Open the Farming section, pick an empty route and press Record loop, then ride the eight waypoints once by hand, finishing at the Hold so the loop closes. Target the mobs you want as you pass and press + Current target for each: the Geolords, Avengers and Keepers at the camps and the silithid on the hive rims. Turn on Go to a vendor when bags are full and Repair at vendors, and in Loot and bags keep Sell gray items, Auto loot and Buy food and water checked so the water never runs out in the far south.
For the herbs, open Professions, tick Herbalism (and Mining if you carry a pick), keep Remember nodes on so every Dreamfoil and Plaguebloom you pick joins the loop, and leave Skip nodes above your skill checked until Plaguebloom is within reach. In Settings set Route mode to safest, which keeps the arrow on the sand instead of across the mounds, and widen the Arrival radius a little so the loop does not stall on a dune. Press Save profile, then Start; the Current status panel counts kills, gold and gold per hour so you can compare evenings honestly. The pricing page lists which plan includes the Farming and Professions sections.
FAQ
Can I run the silithus farming route at level 55?
Yes, on the northern half. At 55–56 the Twilight Base Camp and the rim of Hive'Ashi are single pulls in gear from any 50s dungeon, while the southern camp and Hive'Regal still hit too hard. Farm the north until 57, then add the south one waypoint at a time.
Do the silithid drop cloth or coin?
No. They are not humanoids, so there is no Runecloth and little or no coin; the hive side of the lap pays in Silithid Carapace Fragments for the turn-in, in greens and in the herbs around the mounds. Treat the hives as the herbalist's half of the loop and the camps as the pocket-money half.
Should I hand the texts in or sell them?
Hand them in only if you want the reputation: Cenarion Circle standing unlocks the quartermaster's rewards and the later quests in the zone, and ten texts a turn-in adds up quickly. If you have no use for it, sell. Buyers are easy to find on any realm with an active raid scene.
